Pantech is making a 1080p mobile displays and quad-core S4 Pro processors like they’re going out of style, as Pantech is now rumored to be working on a FullHD smartphone of its own.
Everyone is keen to catch-up to HTC’s DNA smartphone, which was unveiled last month as the first in what will likely be a new wave of smartphones with 1080p screens. With the likes of Samsung, Sony, and LG undoubtedly cooking up a response, several smaller manufacturers have also jumped in with impressive offerings of their own, including the Oppo Find 5 and ZTE Nubia Z5.
Besides the 1080p display of unconfirmed diagonal (5 inch might be a good guess) and quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the Pantech Vega IM-A860 is expected to feature an Adreno 320 GPU and run on Android 4.1.1. No word yet on how much storage or RAM will be included, as well as what type of battery will power it all.
The Vega IM-A860 is expected to hit retail in early 2013, likely as Pantech’s next flagship smartphone.

HTC’s Butterfly, the droid with the 5″ 1080p screen, started off in Japan, moved to the US and has now finally gone international. It keeps the same cool specs as the country-specific versions, including the high-res S-LCD3 and the Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset.
But instead of telling you about it, it’s easier to show it with this video ad for the HTC Butterfly.
See? HTC is living up to its “Quietly brilliant” slogan and subtly tells you about the Butterfly’s burst shot capabilities, wireless TV out and face recognition. The ad also shows the phone is splash resistant, which is true for the Japanese version (the J Butterfly), but the specs of the international version make no mention of this.
The HTC J Butterfly, world first 5-inch 1080p Full HD display-packing, has now a promo video, this monster of a smartphone is exclusive for the Japanese carrier AU/KDDI for the time being.
The ad focus on the 1080p display in question, Here goes the video itself.
KDDI has unveiled the HTC J Butterfly (HTL21) in Japan and it is the first production smartphone to have a 1080p display.
The HTC J Butterfly has : 5.0-inch, Super LCD3 display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which gives it a pixel density of the astonishing 440 ppi. The display is quite big but at 143 x 71 x 9.1 mm, the J butterfly is only slightly bigger than the One X (134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm) and at 140g weighs just 10g more.
Under the hood of the HTC J butterfly, you have a quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB internal storage, microSDHC expansion.
On the back is an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video recording and on frontal 2 megapixel camera. The smartphone supports 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), NFC, LTE and CDMA/GSM/UMTS/GPRS radios, and the phone is dust and waterproof (IPX5). Strangely, for a phone with such specs, the battery is only 2,020mAh.
Finally, the HTC J Butterfly will ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
The HTC J butterfly is set to release in Japan on AU/KDDI in December. The phone will be sold in three colors: red, black and white.

Pantech announced the Vega R3 is phablet to come join the Samsung Galaxy Note II and LG Optimus Vu market, a market that we see it grows a bit after bit.
The phoneblet features a 5.3-inch Natural IPS Pro LCD screen of 720p resolution and Qualcomm’s monster Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset.
Pantech is the latest company to develop a dislike for bezels and the Vega R3 features “Zero Bezel Tech”. It keeps the phone compact and “provides optimum grip for a typical Korean hand.” The phoneblet is 9.95mm thick and weighs 169g.
The Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset is one of the headline-grabbing features of the Pantech Vega R3. It packs four Krait CPU cores clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 GPU. It should readily tackle Samsung Galaxy Note II and LG Optimus Vu.
There are only two other mobile devices that use the S4 Pro chipset – the LG Optimus G and the Xiaomi Mi-Two.
The camera on the back of the Vega R3 does 13MP stills and features “Best Face” functionality – the now familiar Scalado-like approach of taking multiple shots and combining the best facial expression for each person into a single photo.
The phoneblet also packs extensive connectivity features – LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0. There’s a microSD card to expand the built-in memory.
The battery that powers the chipset and the big screen is a 2,600mAh “super battery pack”, which promises 14 hours and 30 minutes of talk time. Charging the battery back up will be pretty quick too, with the 2A charger – it takes about 100 minutes according to Pantech. It’s a 2 port charger too, so you can plug in the phone along with a spare battery.
The Pantech Vega R3 is available through the three South Korean carriers starting today. It’s launching with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich but a Jelly Bean update is in the cards too.

The Optimus G is one of the most awaiting LG’s flagship, and one the most enhanced features on the Optimus G, that the Korean firm found it innovative and that we’re going to talk a bit on it (Lg talks about it on the video down below), is the 13MP sensor.
But first lets do a breakdown on the features side, the Optimus G runs on the Qualcomm APQ8064 processor, which is the quad-core version of the MSM8960 we saw on the HTC One S and several other phones. It also features a new Adreno 320 GPU, which is said to be significantly more powerful.
First off, the Optimus G will be sold in both 8MP and 13MP varieties depending on the region. Secondly, the camera module was built by LG Innotek, for what that’s worth. The 13MP sensor is backside illuminated with a total size of 1/3.06″ and an estimated pixel size of 1.1 microns per pixel (those are some really tiny pixels there).
Further more features will include a 2GB of RAM, a a 4.7-inch 1280×768 IPS display, 720p True HD IPS display, 13MP camera, 2,100mAh battery and Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich on top of all.
